In partnership with our community, the Family and Children’s Division of the Forsyth County Department of Social Services provided holiday items for over 175 children in Foster Care and 127 Relatives as Parents Program “RAPP” families (305 children and 55 adults) for a grand total of 535 people served!
Thanks to over 141 generous individuals, churches, Forsyth County Government employees, community groups and businesses, the “presents” of joy was encountered throughout our community.
Additionally, in November, 6 community sponsors provided Thanksgiving meals for 10 families (36 people). These families were grateful for the opportunity to have holiday meats, side dishes and delectable desserts to enjoy while enjoying the holiday season.
The success of these annual projects exceeds basic items for families; it offsets financial burdens and strengthens family bonds by providing opportunities to create lasting family memories.
A special expression of appreciation to Mr. Stan Gordon, a Foster-Adopt Resource Parent and leader of Boy Scout Troop # 919 in Pfafftown, for organizing his troop in the delivery of items to over 30 families amidst exceptionally cold weather! RAPP also extends appreciation to Bell, Pitt & Davis Law Firm for their kindness in donating turkeys for twenty five families at the Holiday Season with those efforts coordinated by Laurie Kent and Jared Waren.
We are proud of the dedication of our senior social workers Brigitte Lindsay and Teresa Bryant, both of whom work long and late hours to accommodate the schedules of our sponsors and clients and their concurrent other work duties during these dynamic projects.
In the midst of an uncertain economy, we are sincerely grateful for the success of our holiday assistance programs and the immeasurable impact on our community.
