May is Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month

Every day in Forsyth County, two teenage girls between ages 10-19 become pregnant. This national observance represents an opportunity for you and your organization to join with others to increase public awareness of the need to address the effects of unintended teen pregnancy and early childbearing on a community-wide level. The U.S. has the highest rates of teen pregnancy and teen births in the western industrialized world. Adolescent pregnancy costs the United States more than $9 billion each year.

Parents, educators, public health and medical professionals, and community organizations all have a role to play in reducing teen pregnancy. There is still much work to do, because teen pregnancy has such a huge impact on the future of America's children.
