More than 165 participants attended the Second Annual Celebrating Families Carnival, hosted by Forsyth County Department of Public Health’s Family Community Health Education and Outreach (FCHEO) section. The event was held on Saturday, May 19, 2012, to celebrate the accomplishments of all program participants. During the year, FCHEO staff work with various individuals and families through programs such as Healthy Start Baby Love Plus, Prenatal Parenting Series, Cuídate Amiga con Planificación Familiar, Cribs for Kids, Healthy Beginnings, The Incredible Years, Teen Talk and Teen Initiative Project.
The carnival is planned by the FCHEO section and sponsored by Healthy Start Baby Love Plus, Healthy Beginnings and local resources. This educational and fun-filled family event engaged mothers, fathers, and children in issues related to the health of families. The Family Carnival included educational games such as Identify a Safe Sleep Place, Breastfeeding Jeopardy, Baby Diaper Changing Race, Child Development Life Course Race and Family Planning Scramble Board. Remember the old scramble board from Soul Train?
The midday event also included tips and demonstrations on properly installing a child safety seat, information on tobacco cessation and the importance of preconception and interconception wellness. Participant evaluations report our families thoroughly enjoyed themselves and found the day not only fun, but also informative. One participant said, “Everything was fantastic, please don’t stop having this wonderful community outing.”
The Second Annual Celebrating Families Carnival was filled with fun activities for the whole family. We had food, games and a lot of fun to go around!
