National HIV Testing Day is Wednesday, June 27th.
The CDC estimates that approximately 1.1 million Americans are living with HIV; of these, an estimated 21% do not know they are infected.
National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) is an annual event meant to raise awareness of the importance of knowing one's HIV status and encourage individuals to receive an HIV test. Across the country, thousands of HIV testing sites, state and local health departments, and community-based HIV/AIDS service providers will participate in NHTD events, by holding health fairs, providing community and media outreach, hosting special testing-related events or operating extended hours.
Forsyth County’s POSSE Team (Prevent Ongoing Spread of STDs Everywhere) will conduct a mobile unit tour through several neighborhoods in Forsyth County on Tuesday, June 26th in Observance of this day. Free POSSE t-shirts and other items will be given to those who get an HIV test.
If you are interested in getting tested, contact Leonard Hay at 703-3213 for more information. You can also visit http://www.possehealth.org for a list of our community testing sites. All HIV testing with POSSE is free and confidential.
