Every year, flu spreads across the country, from person to person. The severity of flu illness can vary from mild to severe. Complications from influenza can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death, especially in infants and young children. Even healthy children can get sick from the flu. Children need to be immunized once they reach 6 mos. of age.
Flu activity usually peaks in January or February in the United States and can last as late as May. We are still having cases of flu reported in Forsyth County, so as long as flu season isn’t over, it’s not too late for young children to be vaccinated.
