Always watch children when they are in and around water. Keep young children within arm’s reach of an adult. Make sure older children swim with a partner every time they are in the water.
Among preventable injuries, drowning is the leading cause of death for children 1 to 4 years of age. Children ages one to four are more likely to drown in a pool. Children five years of age and older are more likely to drown in natural water, such a as ponds, lakes and rivers. (Source: Safe Kids)
