Mosquito Season: It’s Not Done Yet!
Mosquito season is still in full swing, even though we’ve been tempted with some intermittent cooler weather the last two weeks. Don’t be fooled though, they are still out there! To prevent mosquito breeding and biting follow the following steps!
- Tip and Toss!: Make sure your home has nowhere for the mosquitoes to lay eggs and breed! Remove ALL standing water from bird baths, toys, old tires, baby pools, water dishes, and potted plants in your yard. If the item needs to hold water (such as a bird bath or water dish for your pets) make sure you dump out and refresh with clean water every other day. Removing their breeding habitat from your area helps reduce the amount of mosquitoes born.
- Wear Protection!: When outside, make sure to wear an EPA approved mosquito or insect repellant. Follow the instructions on the label for recommended use. Wear long sleeves and pants too!
- Remove Mosquitoes!: Use an outdoor insect spray made to kill mosquitoes in areas where they rest. Mosquitoes rest in dark, humid areas like under patio furniture and under carports. When using these insecticides, always follow the labels instructions.
- Keep Them Out!: Install or repair window and door screens. Do not leave doors propped open and use air conditioning whenever possible.
