Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough shared words of inspiration with teens in foster care who recently graduated high school at the LINKS Graduation Celebration on June 20.
The event, held at the Novant Health Conference Center, was a way to celebrate the high school graduations of seven teens in the Forsyth County LINKS program. LINKS is an independent living program at the Department of Social Services that works with youth in foster care between 13-21 years old to help them prepare for adulthood by teaching them skills for independence. LINKS assists foster youth with things like education, learning life skills and finding stable housing.
Sheriff Kimbrough ate dinner with some of the youth in attendance and then gave a rousing speech, outlining his life’s journey from his childhood in Forsyth County to his career in law enforcement that led to him becoming a federal DEA agent and, ultimately, Forsyth County Sheriff. He told the teens to figure out where they’re going in life and to not to let anything stop them from getting there.
“Your destination is greater than your situation,” said Kimbrough.
During the event, foster teens were each presented with a certificate. They also received a $100 gift card from the EACH Foundation and a basket full of useful items.
