Local organizations have donated approximately 50 turkey meals to the Forsyth County Department of Social Services to distribute to foster families and other DSS clients in need this Thanksgiving.
Donated Thanksgiving meals that included a turkey and all the fixings were dropped off at DSS on Monday, Nov. 23. The meals were distributed to clients of foster services and clients of Child Protective Services and In Home Services whose financial constraints would make it difficult for them to provide a Thanksgiving meal for their family. The organizations that donated were Schneider Electric, Black Professional Employee Resource Group, Calvary Baptist Church on Peace Haven Road, Friends of Winston-Salem, MED-CO Diabetic Supplies, Inc, and RestoreOne, a non-profit that assists vulnerable families in the community who partnered with Winston-Salem First for donations.
The 50 donated meals will feed approximately 183 children and adults this holiday. Family and Children’s Services Director, John Thacker, thanked DSS’s community partners for helping make this holiday special for their clients.
We want to make the holiday season as pleasant as possible for our clients. It’s a blessing when individuals and local sponsors are able to provide Thanksgiving meals to families in our community,” said Thacker.
