Over the next eight weeks, Forsyth County Department of Public Health, Novant Health, and Wake Forest Baptist Health will receive an additional allotment of 3,510 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine each week. This allocation is part of the FEMA hub-and-spoke model of vaccine distribution, intended to extend vaccine access from the current FEMA site in Greensboro to other communities in the Triad area.
"We're excited to have additional doses from the federal government that will allow us to reach more people in historically marginalized communities," said Forsyth Deputy County Manager and Health and Human Services Director Shontell Robinson. "We're working with our partners to provide access to every part of our community as the vaccine becomes available to larger groups of people."
The weekly allotment will be divided between the three organizations. Forsyth County Department of Public Health’s allotment will supplement ongoing community outreach events. Novant Health and Wake Forest Baptist Health will host weekly events at Winston-Salem State University as well as targeted community outreach events in Winston-Salem, High Point and surrounding communities.
“We are very excited to have been chosen as a vaccination site. WSSU is well connected to our surrounding community and will play an integral role in outreach and education about the safety of the vaccine,” said Jason Stogner, director of emergency management for Winston-Salem State University. “Over the next eight weeks you’re going to see us on the ground, in our community, making sure our most vulnerable populations receive the care they deserve.”
“Our teams and our partners have been working around the clock to vaccinate our community,” said Dr. Pam Oliver, executive vice president and president Novant Health Physician Network. “The additional 3,500 vaccine doses per week will bolster our outreach events and help us expand our vaccination pop-ups to include Davie County and other local communities. Every dose means we’re one step closer to ending this pandemic.”
“Wake Forest Baptist Health has had relationships with Winston-Salem State University in various areas for years and we are grateful for their continued partnership as we all work together to defeat COVID-19 in our community,” said Wake Forest Baptist Health President Dr. Kevin High. “In addition to these events, we are also using our Mobile Health Clinic and partnering with churches, businesses and other organizations to ensure everyone has a chance to receive the vaccine, regardless of where they live.”
Registration for the events will be managed by Novant Health, Wake Forest Baptist Health and community partners.
