Synopsis and Discussion

Air quality levels remain in the upper Code GREEN range as the Triad remains in the warm and moist sector between offshore high pressure to the east and an approaching upper-level trough from the west. Increasing clouds and breezy southwesterly winds should prevent any significant pooling of pollution concentrations through the rest of the day. A cold front is expected to move through the Triad early Sunday, with widespread showers and storms likely into the afternoon. With that said, ozone and particle pollution levels should drop into the middle Code GREEN range. A cooler air mass moves in behind the departing front on Monday and Tuesday to bring temperatures closer to normal for this time of year, with air quality levels remaining in the middle to upper Code GREEN range through mid-week. (Payne) *** Due to increased wildfire risk and severe drought across most of the state, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a statewide ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide. ***
