A cooperative effort among several organizations once again resulted in an excellent addition to the Forsyth Park System. The citizens of Walkertown had been searching for adequate recreation facilities to serve their area since the abandonment of their Community Center property in the mid-seventies. Their search brought them to a responsive Forsyth County.
The park site was purchased by the County in late 1983. Soon afterward, a grant from the Federal Government was obtained to assist with the park's development. The Walkertown Community Center, Inc. also made a generous donation toward the park's construction that not only matched, but exceeded the Federal grant monies. Coupled with continuing support from the County, Forsyth County Parks and Recreation was in high gear to commence construction.
Early 1985 saw the ground breaking for the Walkertown Community Park and development continued at a fast and furious pace. When the dust settled in November of that same year, the park was officially opened to the public. Since then, a soccer field has been graded and irrigation installed. Parking lots have been asphalted and the playground completely renovated. The park continues to receive heavy usage by the public.
