Lodging facilities include all hotels, motels, inns, bed and breakfast homes, bed and breakfast inns and other places providing lodging accommodations for pay. Inspections are performed once per year on each facility with a grade posted of either A, B or C. An A is awarded for scores of 90 to 100, a B for scores of 80 to 89.5 and a C for scores of 70 to 79.5. If a grade of less than 70 is given, that facility’s permit is immediately suspended. If a grade of less than an A is received, that facility can request a re-grade for the purpose of raising the letter grade. If a request is made, then an unannounced inspection must be performed within 15 days from the date of the request.
Inspections are performed to ensure the proper sanitation of the facility inspected. During an inspection, the Environmental Health Specialist will check for a number of items. These include, but are not limited to, room condition and cleanliness, proper lighting and hot water temperatures, cleanliness of ice buckets, presence of pests, proper waste disposal and furniture condition. In addition, for those establishments providing a continental breakfast, we ensure that the proper guidelines are being followed and that food is not being prepared or cooked by the facility without a food service permit.
